BIG GAME SPECIES IN THE ADRIATIC

In the last few years Europe has got a new destination for big game anglers in the Adriatic sea. It’s eastern part, Croatian coast has been known for centuries as a habitat of one of most desired big game fish - bluefin tuna.

 

What we are fishing and when?

Big game fishingMostly we are fishing different kinds of tunas, sharks and swordfish. The month of April is right for little tunnis moving in shoals and wirh an average weight of 10-15 kg.
This period offers great possibilities for a rich catch. The end of May and beginning of june its sahrk hunting season ( bluesharks and thresher sharks ). In the beginning of August it’s bluefin tuna fishing ; average weight of 70-80 kg up to 500 kg. The tunas foolow great albacore tuna shoels with an average weight 10-15 kg.

Croatia fishing and Adriatic sea has a unique characteristic which puts it in front of other fishing destinations. Namely, the bluefin tuna fishing, otherwise a highly migratory species has chosen Adriatic sea for it’s home and this is the only known place on earth, where bluefin can be caught any time of the year.

Bluefin tuna here range from baby size to giants in the range over 300 kg. They are present along the outer coast of the hundreds of islands and often they come well inshore entering estuaries and channels.

Bluefin tuna is not the only important big game species in Adriatic. The ultimate fishing challenge for many sport fisherman is a - broadbill swordfish which is present in fair numbers.
Sharks, even not as frequent as in tropical destinations are respectable opponents.
The blue shark and thresher shark are targeted by big game fisherman in Adriatic.


March and April offer great fishing for little tunnies, which come in huge numbers in the inshore waters. Little tunnies in Adriatic grow to sizes up to 13 kg, during some seasons the average fish is around 10 kilos.

During the fall, fisherman have a choice among albacore farther offshore and amberjack on the outer sides of many islands.
Dolphin fish or mahi-mahi are present in great numbers.

What does a Croatia fishing day on the boat "BAKUL" look like?

 

Departure from the old harbour in Vodice at 10 o’clock or as arranged, depending on the fishing season, the fish species and angling type. There are two common kinds of tuna BIG GAME FISHING. TROLLING and DRAFTING.

Recommendations and suggestions are made by the captain, but it’s up to You to choose what kind of fish you want to catch and how. Return at the harbour at 18 o’clock. It’s important to mention that the complete fishing tackle and baits are available on the boat. But you can use your personal equipment if you like.
