The Comeback of
Croatia! |
|
It's really comeback of Croatia! Take a
little bit of Venice, a tiny bit of Rome, and throw in plenty of
sunshine and clear Mediterranean waters and you will get Croatia. As one
looks at Europe on a globe, the little country is practically dead
center. Some 60 miles east of Venice, across the flat and crystalline
waters of the Adriatic Sea, Croatia is a boomerang-shaped nation that
soaks up Mediterranean coastline even as it juts deep into eastern
Europe's mountains and farmland to Hungary.

Zagreb - September Theatre
Season
Croatia news -
September
2007
Although
Croatian capital Zagreb has no lack of cultural events even during
the summer, the start of autumn marks a kind of new beginning to the
cultural life of the city. From the beginning of September Zagreb
becomes the host of traditional international cultural events.
The
40th International Festival of Puppet Theatre will be held from
August 31 to September 7 and the
5th Festival of World Theatre - Zagreb 2007 - kicks off in mid
September.
The
International Festival of Puppet Theatre (PIF) is globally renowned
event that, from its very beginnings in 1967, showcases all kinds of
puppetry expression. The festival is open to all puppetry techniques,
genres and topics. Many puppet plays take place in Zagreb’s theatres,
streets and squares during the PIF - from the traditional to entirely
modern experiments targeted to all age groups. Besides many plays of
local and international puppet troupes, this year they will come from
Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Italy, The Netherlands, Spain, Hungary,
Slovenia, as well as from Croatia. The repertoire will feature book
promotions, meetings with puppet theatre masters, puppet workshops
and similar.
A week after the
close of the PIF, on September the 15th, Zagreb will for the fifth time
play host to the
World Theatre Festival. The event showcases a selection of the best
and most innovative world theatre works.
The aim of the
festival is to show to
Zagreb public the relevant trends in the major
theatre centres around the world and to provide the theatre-going public
with a window to world-class theatre.
From its first
season in 2003, the World Theatre Festival has brought the
theatre-going public and cultural public of Zagreb the works of the top
authors of contemporary world theatre like Robert Lapage, Piotr Fomenko,
Luca Bondy, Jozef Nadj, Krystian Luppe, Eugenia Barba, Eimuntas
Nekrošius, Reza Gabriaze, Rimas Tuminas, Peter Brook, Jan Fabre, Lev
Do-din, Oskar Koršunovas and young authors Pipo Delbono, Antonio Latelle,
Thomas Ostermeier, Andrej Žoldak, Alvis Hermanis and Dani Manfredini.
This year too, up
to September 23rd, there will be shows by eminent artists such as
Russian director Anatoli Vasiljev. The Finnish National Theatre will be
in Croatia for the first time with the play Varasto by writer Arto
Salminen, and associate of Aki Kaurismaki.
Special attention
will be directed to German-speaking theatre with the work of director
Christoph Marthaler and Frank Castorf and young director Stefan Kaegi.
So, if you happened
to be in Zagreb during September, don’t miss these opportunities.

Croatia news:New Marina at Ugljan Island in
Zadar Archipelago
Croatia news - July 2007
A new nautical marina was opened in
the
Zadar archipelago on the island of Ugljan which is the largest
marina in the archipelago with places for about 225 vessels.
Marina Maslina (Olive Island Marine)
is situated in the settlement of Sutomišcica on the island of Ugljan, 20
minutes by ferry from the city of Zadar.
The marina itself is situated in the
peaceful bay between Sutomišcica and Mali Lukoran, with its strategic
position ideal for the safe accommodation of boats. There are a series of
service facilities for sailors, nautical equipment shops, wash areas, a
self service store, a travel left service for boat repairs and the like
on the mainland part
of the marina. There are also 25 dry dock berths in this part of the
marina.
The area on sea includes four large
piers that can accommodate 225 boats, while the outer side of the
breakwater, over 260 metres in length, can berth a large cruiser with a
draught of up to seven metres.
During the construction of this
marina the investors paid special attention to its functionality given
that the entire Zadar archipelago has become an exceptionally
popular sailing destination, and the great need had been demonstrated
for precisely this kind of marina. Besides this, great care was taken in
arranging the complete interior of the marina so that users could enjoy
in the “Zadar mood” and the latest technology that has, in this case,
been successfully built into this traditional Dalmatian ambience.
The island of Ugljan can boast of a
mild Mediterranean climate. The average temperature in the period from
May to October is 22 degrees Celsius, 2,500 hours of sunshine a year
have been recorded, and the gentle maestral that blows on the island
during the summer is a real refresher.Besides that, the island
faithfully preserves the local heritage, another one of the reasons that
this marina will surely attract a great number of visitors.

Croatia news: Improved Safety
on Croatian Beaches
June 2007
The Croatian
interior ministry continues this year its special activities aimed at
improving safety for tourists at
beaches along the the Adriatic
coast. This year Croatian police officers will again be joined by their
colleagues from other European countries in maintaining safety.
After the excellent
results of last year’s cooperation with their Hungarian colleagues,
whose joint safety improvement project on Croatian beaches won top
marks, cooperation has this year been established with police officers
from six European countries: Hungary, France, the Czech Republic,
Austria, Slovakia and the German Federal State of Bavaria.
The arrival of four
police officers is expected from each of the countries, to be deployed
in areas with the highest concentrations of tourists from their
respective countries.
So it is expected
that the Austrian police officers will make their way to
Opatija, while
the other European police officers will head out to areas across all of
Dalmatia. Their roles will be above all that of interpreters, given that
the Croatian legislative framework does not give then wide authorities,
but that will be enough for tourists from their countries to feel safer.
Besides on beaches,
the European colleagues will join their Croatian colleagues in daily
tours of highways and the coastal area in the recently established
mobile units. The project is the only one of its kind in Europe made by
joining efforts of the
Ministry of
the Interior of Croatia, the
Croatian
National Tourism Board and the
Ministry of
the Sea, Tourism, Transport and Development of Croatia. |
