The best Omis riviera beaches!

Omis Riviera rafting and Croatia adventure tours!

Only 26km southeast of Split, Omis Riviera (pronounced Omish)is an easy day trip from Split and makes a good alternative place to stay in the Split region. Located at the mouth of the Cetina river and right on the coast, Omis is a popular rafting destination and there are beaches stretching from Dugi Rat in the west to Ravnice in the east. A 700m wide shallow stretches west of Omis, created by the drifts of the Cetina river. There are also a number of coves between Ravnice and Vrulja with pebble beaches.

Omis is a small, old fortified town, built originally at the foot of the rugged and steep cliffs of the western spur of the Omiska Dinara mountain. Modern Omis has spilled out of the old walls, spreading to a shallow promontory which the Cetina river has formed on the left bank of its confluence. The most distinctive feature of Omis are the enormous sheets of rock that loom over the town and river. At one time the rocks helped seclude the pirates that made Omis one of their chief strongholds.

Sights to see in Omis Riviera include a ruined Venetian fortress on the hill over the town and a 17th century parish church in the town centre.

Omis, city of pirates
Omis pirates were extremely dangerous, especially under rule of powerful Omis rulers - dukes Kacic. In that time, Omis was known as dangerous nest of the pirates, as they were Saracens on Mediterranean Sea or Tatars on Black Sea. As they were attacking Crusaders too, pope Honorius III undertook crusade against Omis’ pirates in year 1221, which Omis won, while the second war, in year 1228, they lost, what was, at the same time, the end of dukes Kacic.

After them Omis was under rule of famous and powerful Subic family, then Horvat brothers, under supreme rule of Bosnian king Tvrtko I, Bosnian ruler Hrvoje Vukcic Hrvatinic, duke Ivanis Nelipic and Stjepan Kosaca. In 1409 Ladislav Napuljski sold Dalmatia to Venice, and Omis finally conquered in 1444.

Omis sandy beaches!

Pisak is a small tourist destination on the fabulous Omis Riviera, close to the town of Omis, 5 km north of Brela and 40 km from the city of Split. Omis Riviera is famous for its beautiful coastline and pebble beaches that go on for kilometers. Pisak lies in a bay and has sandy, pebble and rocky beaches - we recommend it to families with children and water sports enthusiasts who can rent boats, go diving, sailing and surfing. In the evening, you can unwind in restaurants and konobas (local restaurants), and try traditionally prepared fish. If in Pisak, make sure to visit Vrulje springs, where you will find refreshing, cold, drinking water.

Private accommodation and apartments in Pisak. How to get there: 40 km south of Split on the main road towards Makarska

Pisak pebble beaches!

Croatia's most spectacular is the vast, golden pebble beach, almost 580 yards long, known as the Zlatni Rat (Golden Horn), Bol, Island Brac

If you are looking for Dubrovnik beach, my favorite beaches are: Banje beach and Kopakabana ( Copacabana) Beach near Babin Kuk. The most beautiful Brela beaches are situated between Split and Makarska riviera. Hvar is the most attractive Croatia’s island. Its beaches are mostly pebble and rocky.
