Ugljan island sandy beaches!

Ugljan island and Kornati national park

Ugljan island map!

Ugljan island is the closest island of the Zadar archipelago, opposite the town of Zadar, from which is divided by only couple of miles wide channel of Zadar and it is connected with many ferryboat lines. It is also called the green island, covered with dense bush, pine trees, olive-groves, fig-groves, vineyards and other Mediterranean vegetation. It has a surface of 51,85 km2, while the shore line is 74 km long.

Kukljica is a picturesque tourist and fishing village on the Ugljan island near Zadar and the island of Pasman, well connected to the mainland by car ferry. With a small marina, situated in a picturesque bay, Kukljica is the most developed seaside resort on the island of Ugljan. Beautiful landscapes with thick pine forests, lovely beaches, crystal clear sea are just a part of its attractions.

Attractive sandy beaches on the Ugljan island shaded by centuries-old pines: Sabusa, Kostanj and Jelenica (FKK), can be found on both sides of the island.

Sabusa beach is situated on the west coast of the island, which looks on Dugi otok (Long island), about 15 minutes of walk from Kukljica The coast of the beach is arranged while the sea bottom is sandy. The water is shallow and suitable for small children and various water games.

10 minutes walking to the north of Sabusa, there is a Small Sabusa beach. It is a secluded sandy beach suitable for those who want a quiet place for swimming and sunbathing (clothing is optional).

South of Sabusa there is Jelenica naturist / nudist beach with sandy sea bottom and surrounded by olive trees and Mediterranean macchia. Further to the south, before the south point Ugljan's, there is a small nudist islet of Karantunic, which is also a favorite scuba diving spot.
Sabusa and Jelenica, as already mentioned, can be reached by foot from Kukljica, but even better solution is to rent a small motor boat in Kukljica and drive yourself there going around the island.

Kostanj beach is situated north from Kukljica, about 15 minutes of walking by coast from Kukljica. This is a sand beach shaded by centuries-old pines. Sea depth is suitable for small children. In the haven Kostanj there is a valuable historical monument, the renewed old church of St. Jerome from the 13th century.
