Archaeological diving locations

All over the Adriatic coast there are many archaeological diving location where you can find ships wrecks carrying the objects from Greek and Roman period like ceramics and amphorae. Bellow you can visit some the most interesting locations , offering special diving experience even for the beginner divers.

It necessary to remind all diving lovers that in these areas only group diving is allowed only if organized by legal providers of such services. Individual diving is forbidden. During a diving visit it is not allowed to touch or take anything out of the sea or harm the sea creatures in any way. On contrary the persecutors will be punished applying very severe money recompense.

Caska bay - Pag island!

On the northeastern side of the bay can be seen on the surface remains of the ancient aqueduct (water supply line). It was a part of Roman military camp Cissa. Underwater there are heaps of stones, remains of ancient walls and broken pieces of ceramics.

Archaeological site - Island Susak

Susak is an open sea island in the Northern Adriatic. It is only 3 km long and 1.5 km wide. It is a completely sandy island, very unusual for this archipelago. The whole northern and north-eastern coast of the island is suitable for diving.

The reef Margarina is a very interesting location offering special diving experience even for the beginner divers. It starts by shallow waters, about 5 m deep. Beginners can enjoy there the rich submarine life and meet shoals of fish. The advanced divers accompanied by expert escorts will dive to bigger depth along the cliff through an underwater canyon beginning a few metres to the left of the centre of the reef, descending to 17 meters.

The wreck of the ship used once for transportation of construction materials lies in a cutting of the reef. From this place the ground descends to the greater depth. At a depth of 20 meters there are remains of the pillars used in construction. At that level the wall falls to the depth of about 60m. There are many holes, caves, and cuttings inside the wall. There you can observe various kinds of fish.

In the shallow waters of only 4-5 metres you can see archaeological fragments of the Greek amphorae.


Island Ciovo - Split Region

This location is for beginners, you dive from boat or from shore, you start from 1m depth and you can reach 15m depth. Here you can see various sea species, from scorpion fish to flying fish. This location is interesting to see because of crushed amphorae, lots of them speeded all over the place.
