View of Old Town Dubrovnik from City Walls
My fiance and I traveled from Italy to Croatia in February 2008. We stayed in Dubrovnik, Plitvice Lakes, and Rovinj (Istrian Peninsula).
The Old Town in Dubrovnik was so peaceful and incredibly beautiful. We felt as if we had traveled back in time. The man that we rented our apartment from was very friendly and helpful! He rescued us when our flight was unable to land in Dubrovnik due to the Bora Bora winds. Our flight was re-directed to Zagreb and he helped us get back to Dubrovnik. His name is Damir and he manages two affordable apartments in Old Town. http://www.dubrovnik-apartments.com/curic.htm
Plitvice Lakes National Park was nothing like I have ever seen! The waterfalls and lakes are quite an amazing site! If you have the opportunity to rent a car and drive the Croatian countryside, you really should see Plitvice Lakes!
The Istrian Peninsula was one of the highlights of our trip to Europe. The peninsula offers gorgeous views of the islands and the sea off the northern coast of Croatia. The food was wonderful; fresh seafood, truffles and pasta, Croatian wine, need I say more?!
After our trip to Croatia, we realized how much more hospitable the people are compared to other places we had been in Europe. For example, we were so much more relaxed and able to enjoy our trip in Croatia compared to the stress and sometimes rude treatment we experienced while in Italy. Everything in Croatia was so easy; from renting a car, to finding a restaurant, to asking for directions, we had no problems. I will definitely come back to Croatia. I would very much love to live there!
