Marko Polo Ferry
by: Ray Krebs

I have taken the Marco Polo from Jadrolinija. Once I took the the best cabin they have and once I booked a cheaper one. Both times they were decorated the same, but the more expensive one had a shower and was slightly larger. I have also taken other ferries in Europe (P&O, Irish Ferries, etc.) and they are much nicer. The decor of the Marco Polo is very 1970’s and the beds are bunk-style. The ferry is fine to make the crossing, but don’t expect more than minimal comfort.

Marco Polo Cabins
by: Anonymous

Unfortunately the Marco Polo does not have any de-luxe cabins. My wife and I are just not agile enough to climb up to the top bunk in the 2-person inside and outside cabins. The Dubrovnik and Liburnia both have de-luxe cabins (with two beds, not bunks) -- why not the Marco Polo?

Croatian Ferries
by: Nick Staveley Stanley

State-owned Jadrolinija operate the main Croatian coastal ferry service using the MV. Marco Polo from Rijeka via Split and Korcula to Dubrovnik. It then pops over to Italy before its return trip via the same ports.

The Marco Polo is the "Flagship" of the large Jadrolinija fleet and an excellent seaworthy vessel.

This is a superb way to see the islands and wonderful coastal scenery of Croatia. Good cuisine in their silver service restaurant too!

Last year the Marco Polo’s Master was Srdan Karlovic. He is an affable, go-ahead young captain who is quite a character - in the best possible sense. He certainly knows the Croatian waters like the back of his hand and brings his ship alongside, at the various ports, with amazing skill!
He takes a keen interest in everything that goes on - including "Meeting and greeting" on the dockside. He must be a public relations dream for Jadrolinija but one suspects that they would not have promoted him into this position if he wasn’t something special! Friendly and fashion-conscious (but he still inspires confidence) he is a young go-getter! Definately not your archetypal crusty old Master!

If you were a casting director looking for a submarine captain in an adventure film then this man really fits the bill!

I hope that he is still Master of the Marco Polo throughout 2009 but I would suspect that he will soon progress even further!
