Traveling around Croatia by bus is definitely the best and the cheapest way. Its not the fastest way but sometimes its the only way to move from place to place. For example if you are trying to reach Dubrovnik from Zagreb, and you are not driving or hiring a car, nor flying from Zagreb, than the only cheap way is to take a bus.

Lately the buses in Croatia has become a very modern and comfortable, mostly with air condition which is very important on long distance journeys. Many so called express buses has been introduced that cover longer distances and usually travel by night. Since the new motorways have been constructed, like the one from Zagreb to Split, the journey times have been reduced considerably.

Croatia is practically covered by bus service all over the country, even the smallest towns along the coast or those on Croatia islands, are reachable by local bus network.

The bus connections are more frequent during the tourist season and most of them are in close link with ferries schedules which is important to reach your holiday destination.

Bus service within Croatia is excellent. Service is fast, efficient and there are usually many buses a day going to popular destinations. If you’re traveling Croatia on a budget, bus travel is for you. Most routes are daytime only but there are a few night buses between Zagreb to Zadar, Split, Sibenik or Dubrovnik.

The only place where you can buy a bus ticket is at the bus station, in Croatian language (Autobuski Kolodvor).

You dont need to reserve your bus seat far in advance, but if you are traveling in high season (July and August) and your destination is one of many popular coastal destination, it would be wise to buy it a day or two in advance.

There is a Croatia Airlines bus that meets all regularly scheduled flights to Split. The buses are organized by Pleso Prijevoz and the city stop is at Obala Lazareta, a short walk from the intercity bus station, the train station and the ferry port.

Although traveling by air is the fastest way to move from places to place while traveling by car is convenient and comfortable and traveling by bus is the cheapest, not one of them can be compared to the unique experience Croatia ferries travel could give.
