Zagreb day excursions

Zagreb cheap car rental for day excursions

Zagreb offers many fascinating day excursions in nearby vicinity of the city. The region worth visiting or by bus or renting a car , begins north of Mt.Medvednica outside of Zagreb and extends to the Slovenian border and as far as Varazdin town on the north.

This green and hilly region known as Hrvatsko o Zagreb’s Zagorje covered with pastoral villages, medieval castles and thermal springs, makes a good day break from summer heat and overloaded beaten places along the Adriatic coast. On Zagorje map you can find all most attractive highlights.

Here are some ideas what to visit if you have a day or two.

Krapina town is located in the hilly Hrvatsko Zagorje region of Croatia, approximately 55 km away from both Zagreb and Varazdin.

Kumrovec is a small town, best known for being the birth place of President Jospi Broz Tito. The main attraction in Kumrovec is a reconstruction of a 19th Century Croatian village.

Tuheljske toplice
A health, tourism and sports-recreational centre in Croatian Zagorje, 45 km from Zagreb, at an altitude of 160 m. Book online!

Krapinske toplice
A centre of health-tourism located in Croatian zagorje (altitude 160 m), 40 km from Zagreb, with four springs of radioactive water with a temperature of 39-41 C.

This region is well-known by more than fifty castles, some of them with their own park. Considering the number of castles this area is the richest regions in Croatia. For your day excursions here are some information of most visited:

Veliki Tabor
The 15th century fortified castle Veliki Tabor is the best-preserved monuments of medieval fortification architecture in Croatia.

Miljana
The manor Miljana was built and developed by the counts Ratkay from the beginning of 17th century until the end of 18th century.

Trakoscan castle
Trakoscan was built in the 13th c. within Croatia’s northwestern fortification system, as a rather small observation fortress for monitoring the road from Ptuj to Bednja Valley. It is located on a landscaped hill above the lake.

Castle Marusevac
Located in the village of the same name, in the county of Varazdin. The name's origin goes back into remote times when, according to legend, Marusa, a Chech lady, settled here and established residence. Several centuries later the locality became known as Marusevec. The castle is situated 15 km from the city of Varazdin.

If you are interested in naïve art you should take a day excursion to Hlebine village visiting the famous Croatia naïve school. It’s only an hour and half to reach this picturesque village.

To reach the home of Croatian naive art take the road to the city of Koprivnica, the central town of the Croatian region Podravina, spread along the Drava river.
