Dubrovnik Old Town

Dubrovnik Cruise Ship

I´m going to cheat a bit and copy what I wrote in an email to my parents:

We spent yesterday in Dubrovnik, and we arrived this afternoon in Hvar (one of the Dalmatian islands) by ferry. We are completely crazy about Croatia. It is incredibly beautiful. Even coming in on the plane we flew in around sunrise over all these mountains with low cloud settled in all the valleys. It was absolutely stunning. Then we took a bus from the airport to the Old Town, which is the walled town you may have seen pictures of (I think I saw it once on a travel show). We spent the night in the guesthouse of a very generous Croatian family, with the most spectacular view over Dubrovnik and the Adriatic. The next day we went and had a much better look through the old town. It is gorgeous. A bit similar to Venice in that all the buildings look around the same era (they may not be) and there are no cars. No canals, though. We paid to walk the old city walls, which was the thing to do. It was brilliant. It took us about two hours what with stopping to take photos and things. It was really fantastic. A bit hard to describe. Will try when we get home. I think I took a Mum amount of photos in those few hours alone.
