Old City Walls No visitor to Dubrovnik can miss to visit the old walls that surround the oldest part of the city. The entire inner city is enclosed by massive walls and fortifications, which were built , reinforced and expanded from the 12th to the middle of the 17th century. The main wall is 6.364,83 ft long. On the landward the wall is from 19,69 ft wide and on the seaward side from 9,84 ft and is in places up to 82,02 ft high.
The town was also protected by two freestanding fortresses: Lovrijenac in the west, rising on the 150,92 feet high cliff, the building of which began in 1050 and on the east side by the fortress of Revelin, built from 1539 to 1551 by Italian architect Ferramolino.
Dubrovnik town walls are well preserved in their original state and are unique specimens of medieval fortifications.
