«NA NERETVU
MISICINA PALA» FOLKLORE FESTIVAL (12/05 - 15/05),
Metković
Folklore festival with ensembles from six coastal and
island counties of Croatia. The expert panel selects the most successful
ensembles that, afterwards, take part in national festivals. During the official
opening of the festival, a convoy of boats in Metkovic, as well as a concert of
religious songs in sv. Ilija church, take place. |

5. INTERNATIONAL
CHOIR FESTIVAL (19/05 - 22/05),
Zadar
Festival
of mixed amateur choirs from European countries takes place in sv. Kristofor
church. An international expert panel judges the choirs and the best ones
receive awards: gold, silver and bronze crosses of Cika nun. |

INTERNATIONAL
DUBROVNIK FILM FESTIVAL 2006 (24/05 - 29/05),
Dubrovnik
Film
festival held in Dubrovnik and organized by the Dubrovnik Film Institute. A
whole range of films from the entire world, selected due to their artistic value
and in order to promote international cooperation and friendly competitiveness,
will be shown during the festival. |

RAB KNIGHT GAMES (May
- June - July),
Rab
Knight
tournament with performances by cross-bowers from Rab has been taking place
since 1995, in the memory of the first knight tournament that took place in
1364. A unique feature of Rab's knight games is the use of the ancient cross-bow
that the inhabitants of Rab used in the Middle Ages to defend themselves from
invaders. The games started in order to celebrate their victory and to pay
respect to their patron saint, St. Christopher. |

HVAR SUMMER
EVENTS (June - July - August - September),
Hvar
Hvar
summer cultural manifestation is one of the oldest in Croatia: musical, theater
and folklore programs are organized in picturesque ambiance of town Hvar, which
welcomes artist from home and abroad. Hvar summer performances usually last for
about 100 days. |

Istria Ethno Jazz
Festival (June 20 - July 9),
Pula,
Svetvinčenat
The theme of this year's festival is the human voice,
the guitar, dancing - flamenco, tango, fado, samba, rumba, bossa, while the star
of this year's festival is the legendary American guitarist
Pat
Metheney who will perform on July 2nd at the small Roman amphitheatre
in Pula. On June 20th the festival will be opened by the Spanish group
Ojos de Brujo and guests will include the
Marc Ribot
Mistery Trio, Think Of One, Ladoelectro as well as
Pedro Calder
Cabral. The closing of the festival on July 9th in Svetvinčenat will be
celebrated with the Argentinean group Tango Crash, which mixes
contemporary music with Argentinean tango. |

Lošinj
Traditional summer festival with entertaining-musical
program: concerts, exhibitions, theater plays, group singing performances
(klapa) and folklore ensembles, brass orchestra, dance performances. |

HISTRIA FESTIVAL
(June - July - August),
Pula
International
music and drama festival where classical music concerts, soloist concerts,
operas, operettas, ballets and drama performances are held. During June,
Jamiroquai will have their concert in Arena, while the official
opening of the festival will take place on July 2 with a concert of
Slovenia's philharmonic orchestra and
Maksim
Mrvica. Andrea Bocelli will hold a gala concert on
July 9. Anastacia will perform in Arena during July, while
Enrique Iglesias is expected at the end of August. Since
Histria is one of the largest ballet festivals in the region,
the
Russian Ballet Ensemble will perform "Swan Lake" and "Don Quixote" on
August 2 and 9. "Grk Zorba", co-produced by Maribor, Athens and Pula, will be
performed on August 13.

Concerts
of Classical music, men's choirs and choirs as well as folklore ensembles will
be held in the old part of Lovran and on the terraces of hotels Excelsior and
Bristol on Tuesdays and Fridays. |

NIGHTS (July), Osor (island of
Cres)
Festival of serious music;
concerts of renowned ensembles and soloists from home and abroad that take place
in beautiful venues of town Osor on the island of Cres. At this year's Evenings
there will be 21 concerts held by international and Croatian musicians. |

LUBENICE MUSICAL
EVENINGS, July, Lubenice (Cres)
Classical music concerts held in
very attractive venues of Lubenice town on the island of Cres; rich artistic
program presents world and Croatian interpreters and authors. The concerts are
always held on Fridays in St. Mary Church, and the opening and closing ceremony
is staged on the square in front of the church.

FESTIVAL OF DANCE AND
NON-VERBAL THEATER (July),
Svetvincenat.
International festival
founded in 2000, which, besides dancers, gathers street performers, circus and
similar stage artists. There will be open stage shows, dance workshops,
pantomime, various performances, and painting workshops for mask making. |

RAPSKA FJERA (22/07 -
28/07),
Rab
Rapska
fjera, that is, 'Medieval week on Rab' is a traditional, authentic, costumed
event, when customs, traditional crafts, as well as the way of life in the
Middle Ages are presented. Fjera takes place outdoors - in the streets of the
oldest part of the town of Rab, Kaldanac. Besides the inhabitants of Rab, the
citizens of San Marino, the smallest republic in the world, take part in the
event. |

KRK SUMMER
PERFORMANCES (16/07-27/08),

Krk
summer program includes theater, plays, entertaining-musical program, concerts,
exhibitions and operas. The manifestations are held in Frankopan citadel, Krk
cathedral, Kamplin square, and the islet of Košljun. |

MOTOVUN FILM
FESTIVAL (25/07 - 29/07), Motovun
The festival is accompanied by
numerous events and the lively atmosphere of Motovun's streets, while many
celebrities from the world of film are often among visitors of the festival.

ATP Croatia Open
(July 25 - 31),
Umag
This
year the sixteenth annual main tennis tournament in Croatia is being held the
last week of July. From the first tournament held right up until this one, some
truly great tennis stars have played in Umag including those ranking "number 1"
on the ATP list, tennis players who have won Grand Slams and
numerous ATP tournaments and some of the best tennis players in Croatia. From a
sports point of view, the Croatia Open is a first-rate
competition and tournament that has already received the
«Award of
excellence» three times, proving its high level of standards.

CHILDREN'S FESTIVAL ŠIBENIK (July-August),
Šibenik
The
International Children's Festival takes place on the streets of renaissance town
Šibenik. Both professional and amateur ensembles participate on the festival;
there are specialized creative workshop for children as well as film showings,
performances by theater groups, music ensembles, and puppet shows.

IN ST. DONAT (July- August),
Zadar
International
musical festival; takes place since 1960 in the St. Donat Church and other
sacral venues of Zadar. The festival is composed of two cycles: Musica Antiqua
(medieval, renaissance and baroque music) and Musica da Camera. Performers are
renowned musicians from home and abroad. |

THEATRE (July-August),

Summer
theater festival features state of the art plays of various character and genre
from the national theater. The performances are held in cultural-historical
venues of Zadar (open as well as closed ones). The festival was founded in 1995.

summer festival: concerts of classical music, theater shows, guest performances
by international ensembles, festival of Dalmatian chanson, pop music concerts,

DUBROVNIK SUMMER EVENTS
FESTIVAL (10/07-25/08),
Dubrovnik
Largest
and most representative cultural manifestation in Croatia: international
musical-dramatic and dance festival situated in the Old Town of Dubrovnik.
Festival stages about 80 theater, ballet, opera, and musical performances,
literary work promotions, exhibitions, poetry evenings, off theater performances
etc. Dubrovnik Summer Games were founded in 1950 and have been listed in the
European Festivals Association (EFA) since 1956. |

SPLIT SUMMER EVENTS
(14/07-14/08),
Split
International
festival of opera, drama, dance and music in Split, a town of many cultural
layers and rich cultural heritage; on the whole the festival takes place in
ambient venues - historic core of the city and outside it - trying to unite the
traditional and modern, inherited and actual, Croatian and European. The
festival, beside its own production of HNK Split, welcomes numerous guests from
the music, drama, and dance scene both from home and abroad; the best
performances in music and drama is presented with a "Judita" award by the daily
newspaper «Slobodna Dalmacija». Split summer is one of Croatia's oldest and most
attractive summer festivals - it has been regularly held since the year 1954.

contain sport events and sail regattas on the sea around Korčula. |

Korčula)
Guests can see and hear indigenous songs, dances,
national costumes and musical instruments from Korčula at this traditional
summer manifestation. Besides performances by folklore ensembles concerts of
classical music are held in the town's cathedral famous for its stone
architecture and excellent acoustics. |

EUPHRASIANA BASILICA (July-September),

Traditional
summers music manifestation, founded in 1962 stages a series of classical music
concerts in historic ambiance of Eufrasiana basilica (since 1997 Eufrasiana
basilica is listed on the UNESCO's list of protected cultural heritage). Well
known international and Croatian musicians will be performing sacral and profane
music from all time periods. |

KNIGHT PARTY EVENTS FROM
SINJ (SINJSKA ALKA), 05/08-07/08, Sinj

Traditional knightly
competition of "alkars" from Sinj evokes the victory of people from Cetina
region over Turks on 15th August 1715. Knight tournament is in fact a
competition in which the participants must tilt an iron ring hanging on a rope
332 cm off the ground (so called "alka") while galloping on a horse. |

KARANTENA number 9, (August
- September),
Dubrovnik
International multimedia festival - questions modern artistic aspirations in
different fields: theater, modern dance, performance, music, new media, film and
video; it especially tries to affirm independent projects and new modes of
artistic initiatives. The festival was held in 1996 for the first time.
