Take a train from Rome to Ancona. It’s a cheapest way to travel (second class). You should be in Ancona harbor two hours before departure but since you have no car, it’s ok one hour before. While you are in Rome go to any travel agency and book your ferry ticket in advance using Jadrolinija Croatian ferry company.

Thanks for asking help. You have several possibilities to get from Pescara or Ancona to Croatia.
If you want to get to Stari Grad (Hvar island) there are connections from Ancona and Pescara. The same is to Split. The cheapest ticket is so called simple passage fare or armchair. On August 16 you have SNAV company ferry from Pescara at 10,30 AM arriving in Stari Grad (Hvar island) at 14,300 PM.
If you buy return ticket you can get reduction. Please go to this website and make online booking.
