Ferry from Pescara to Croatia

Hi, I am looking at getting a ferry from either Ancona or Pescara to Hvar or Split. I have been trying to get information from the the ferry websites but it is proving quite difficult. I am looking at going on the 16th of August 09 and want to do it as cheap as possible, could someone recommend a ferry and how much it is likely to cost? I will be traveling alone without a car, do I even need to book? I will be getting there from rome so thought Pescara would be best option?
