Getting to Brac islandThe closest ferry port is at Supetar, on the island’s north coast, almost directly opposite Split. It takes just over an hour to make the crossing. (costs 27 HKN). Click to open the Brac map. If you want to ask the question about Brac island, visit our Brac island forum. During the lower season there are more then seven times a day, while in the high season the service runs pretty well, with more than 15 crossings, the first one at 06 am and the last one going at about 1 am. It is not possible to book a place on the ferries so the practice is to come at least a half an hour before the ferrys departure, park your car in the queue, go and buy your ticket and then wait for the ferry to begin loading. This crossing is one of the most crowded in July an August. Click here to see all ferries from Brac to Split, Makarska - Sumartin, Split - Milna, Split - Bol - Jelsa.
Split - Supetar isn’t the only crossing from the mainland to Brac. A small ferry operates between Makarska, south of Split, and Sumartin on the island’s eastern tip. This is very convenient if you’re traveling to or from Dubrovnik as it cuts about 60km off the distance between Split and Dubrovnik. There are from three to five crossing per day. (30 minutes, costs 27 HKN). Above are ferries connections (for both vehicles and passengers), but from June to September there is a fast passenger boat between Split and Bol ( an hour and 45 minutes ride and it costs 50/70 HKN, one way/round trip). It stops at Milna. This is a popular excursion boat and to save I suggest you if you are coming from Split to buy a return ticket there. If you are getting to Brac island as a passenger you will depend on the busses on Brac to get you around the island. Busses are running from Supetar to the main towns like Bol, Milna, Skrip and Sumartin. I must inform you that public transportation is rather inadequate and you may wish to have your own car if you want to see more in a short time. Specially, keep in mind that the bus from Sumartin to Supetar only goes early in the morning and again in the evening. On the other hand, you can wait until you arrive on the island and hire a car from a local travel agency. Mopeds are also available for hire. Don’t forget to bring your license.
