If you are visiting Hvar island, getting to Hvar page is the short travel guide to help you how to reach this island. The fact is that the best way and I would say the only one to reach Hvar island (Hvar town, Stari Grad, Jelsa or Sucuraj) are ferries or fast passengers ships (Catamaran).

Generally, if you travel by car, bus or train, you need to reach Split or Drvenik in central Dalmatia, where you can take a ferry to Hvar or catamaran to Hvar (from Split). Ferries Split - Stari Grad (Hvar), and Drvenik - Sucuraj take cars.

Island has excellent connections with the mainland. From Split as the main hub you have several daily ferry connections to Hvar island , to be more accurate to Stari Grad town.

From Stari Grad ferry port you have less then 20 km to Hvar town and 10 km to Jelsa town. For those arriving to Stari Grad without car there is a bus connections to Hvar town and to Jelsa.
