These cruises originated in Turkey - the home of the gulet - is now also available in Croatia. This is more of a waterborne holiday, light-hearted and fun, but not a way to learn anything about yachting of any kind. Mostly, you have to charter the whole yacht, but in Turkey and Croatia some do offer cabin charters as well.

Prices for gullets are for the whole yacht, fully crewed, and for an average of 4 hours cruising per day. Food and drink are not included, and there is an additional cost for half or full board. Cruising speed is about 9 knots (10 M.P.H.) so daily distances are modest, and the daily routine usually includes a lunch and swimming stops in one of the many coves.

The difference in price is very considerable, but mainly reflects standards of finish and overall comfort. Food and drink prices vary little or not at all! Cruises are a wonderfully relaxed holiday option. All the yachts themselves are built in Turkey. Croatia has a slightly shorter season, and is cooler in high summer than Turkey. Overnight stops in Croatia tend to be in marinas and towns; in Turkey, you will usually be in an isolated bay, and need to create your own entertainment.
