When we talk about Losinj island, very
often is used the name Mali Losinj. Mali Losinj is undeniably the
most important attraction of the island but two main villages Mali (small)
and Veli (big) Losinj are extremely popular spots for a holiday
combining beach, culture and mountains.
The island is 31 km long and divided from Cres island by a narrow
canal. The northwestern part of the island is steep and rocky, the
eastern coast is flat and there are numerous coves in the
southeastern part. Mali Losinj is the larger town and was an
important shipbuilding centre. It is near beautiful Cikat Bay,
surrounded with dense pine forests. Veli Losinj is smaller and
famous for the pretty, baroque houses surrounding its little harbor.
From Losinj, there are ferries to
Susak, famous for
diving
activities.
