Pizza alla Domenica

Old Town Pizzeria Domenica

Old Town Pizzeria Domenica

My sister and I had just arrived in Dubrovnik and our growling bellies were ready for some pizza. Though a slavic country, Croatia's proximity to Italy has resulted in a wonderful fusion of Italian, Mediterranean, and Yugoslav cuisine, and we'd heard that this was a country that knew how to make a good pizza. We had originally wanted to go to a different pizza place, but it was sadly all full and had quite a wait. But we were in "Pizza Alley," the pizza district of Dubrovnik, so we had plenty of other restaurants to choose from right on the same street. We went with Domenica, which had plenty of outdoor seating on simple but spacious wooden tables in a charming, shaded white cobble-stone-y alleyway.

Sure, it's just pizza, but they really do everything right. The meny has scads of toppings options, as well as a bit of non-pizza food if you're not in the mood. There's a nice selection of cold soft drinks or beer. Service was friendly and fast. Prices are fair. And the pizza itself was great. A thin crust, quite crispy at the edges, covered in plenty of gooey cheese with just a hint of piquant tomato sauce. Filling, refreshing, and a great way for us to start our visit to Dubrovnik.
