Sunj Beach (Lopud Island)

Beach Sunj on Lopud island
Probably one of the best Naturist destinations in Southern Croatia! Sunj (pronounced: SHUN) has fine sand that slopes very gently within a horseshoe-shaped bay which means that swimming is extremely safe and the waves are usually small to non-existent! The only exception is when a stiff wind is blowing up from Greece (not very often) - but this will bring large waves directly onto the beach - however, this can be great fun in itself!
Sunj has two good coconut-palm-covered cafes serving a range of local dishes and snacks plus the excellent Posip (white) wine from Korcula and Dingac (Red) the acclaimed wine from Peljesac. Nice clean toilets here too.
When you walk down the steps to the beach the Naturist (FKK) section is immediately to the left and "textiles" are to the right. A full-time beach attendant, a nice young Croatian man, keeps the beach clean and tidy and (for a small charge) also provides sun umbrellas and beach loungers - all very civilised - he also makes sure that the FKK section does not get invaded by too many non-naturists and actually asks them to leave if they advance too far into the nudist area. All of the naturists seemed to be confident and totally relaxed in this environment! They also seem very friendly here and we made friends with a lovely couple from Bratislava. The sand is fine and hot underfoot whilst the water is totally clear with many small fishes clearly visible! Small cliffs back the narrow beach but there is no cover or privacy. However this is an exceptionally good naturist beach and great fun!
To get to Sunj you will need to stop on Lopud (a beautiful sleepy island with not much going on) or travel, on a day trip, from Dubrovnik. The Jadrolinija boat MV.Postira sails on a regular schedule from Gruz Harbour (Dubrovnik) 3-4 times per day and back. It calls at all three of the major Elaphite islands including Lopud. Postira will drop you at the main quay at Lopud town and you will then need to walk over the centre of the island (there is no traffic) for 40 minutes to reach Sunj. There is shade-cover from the trees but this walk includes a mild uphill and downhill section - so take water and a backpack, don't walk too fast, enjoy the scenery and you shouldn't have a problem.
This beach really is a naturist paradise!
